Teaching & Resources

Christian teaching is offered in a variety of ways at St Mary’s, with Sunday sermons, special courses and homegroup discussions all playing a part, helping us explore the current theme or topic. The various themes studied by the benefice throughout the year are prayerfully and carefully planned out by our Rector and the ministry team.

Throughout 2025 we are concentrating on what it really is to be a disciple of Jesus Christ; to let the Holy Spirit transform us and live out that transformation in our everyday lives.

Alongside the formal teaching, we also try to support each other as a congregation, and through the Spirit encourage one another from our own faith experience, allowing everyone to explore and grow stronger in their own faith and at their own pace.

Whatever your faith background and wherever you are in your personal journey - long term Christian or right at the start - you will be valued and welcomed at St Mary’s.

Sunday sermons

As an important component of the Christian teaching at St Mary’s each sermon is recorded and made available as an audio file to everyone online for catch-up or further reflection as required:

Bible Reading resources

There are many opportunities today for reading the Bible from hard copy formats, with supporting aids, to digital Bible online or in app format.

An excellent and extensive resource for Bible reading is the web-based Bible Project . This has a wide wide range of support for all ages including videos, guides, podcasts and classes. They also offer an app for Android or iPhone.

Lectio 365 offers a free daily devotional app that helps you ‘pray the Bible’ every day. With the Lectio 365 app you ‘pray the Bible’ by meditating on the scriptures and asking God to speak through them. The Lectio app is available for Android or iPhone. Full details can be found on the 24-7prayer.com website.

The Scripture Union publish a range of excellent (subscription-based) Bible reading resources. They also offer two apps for Android or iPhone - ‘Daily Bread’ or ‘Encounter with God’.

Bible Hub is another resource for bible study. It hosts an Online Parallel Bible and has a range of search and study tools. (It also hosts some ‘odd’ adverts!)

We are not running any special courses at present. These generally take place during lent. ‘Watch this space’!
