Funerals

and burial of remains or interment of ashes at St. Mary’s Church

If someone you know and love has died, a funeral, burial or interment led by our Rector can be held in St. Mary’s, in the churchyard by the graveside, or at a crematorium. Our minister will be there to support you every step of the way.

The message at all Church of England funerals is one of hope. Although there is sadness because someone you know and love has died, in every Church of England funeral there will also be a message of hope in life after death. Christians believe that when we die God promises that we will be with him in a wonderful place where death and pain are gone forever. Whatever the circumstances of death, these words of hope are a great comfort to those who attend a funeral.

After the funeral a family or relative might wish to erect a memorial for a grave in the graveyard – such as a headstone or another type of memorial such as a wooden bench or memorial tree.

The Church of England has strict Churchyard & Grave Regulationsthat cover such memorials and further detailed information can be found on this web site under ‘Church Info’ on the main menu.

If you would like to talk to someone in the church about a funeral or interment of remains or ashes of your loved one or for erecting a memorial please contact the Rector:
