Remember….Remember…..
As we begin November, it can feel like a month that is very much about remembering, all about looking back. Remembering the saints (the heroes and heroines of the church) who have gone before us, remembering our own loved ones and remembering those whose lives have been given and taken away in war.
Yet the more I reflect on this, the more I have realised that November is perhaps even more a month about the present. In remembering the past, we can change our present. We remember the losses and horrors of war to commit ourselves to work for peace. We remember what inspires us in the lives of others to choose to live inspired by them and change the way we live now.
And at the end of the month, as we celebrate Christ the King and Advent Sunday, we look forward to the day when Christ will come again and make everything right, as we seek his Kingdom here and now; in the present and in the place where God has put us.
This month, can you reflect on who inspires you and how you can follow their example, on how can you be a peacemaker (in all the places where you spend your time) and how you can seek God’s Kingdom here and now?
